Students

Meten English China

Students are typically 20 to 35 years old professionals, well educated and from a wide variety of backgrounds. There are some ambitious high school students ages 16-18, who are motivated to learn English and recognise it as a skill essential for their academic and career development. Levels range from beginner right through to advanced and all students are clearly placement tested to ensure they are studying alongside students of the same abilities.

Private Class

Courses at Meten English are based on our unique Experimental Learning System which measures students’ requirements to formulate courses to meet their requirements. Teaching is student centered as focuses on developing English skills through thoughtful and meaningful learning tasks in a relaxed and fun environment. The Private Class focuses on providing more individual speaking practice to ensure the learners master spoken language. Maximum 4-5 students.

Activity Class

The Activity Course is a METEN English class that primarily focuses on providing learners with tasks that gets students interested in the topic and challenge their language abilities. The Activity Course has a maximum of 10 students, which allows for an engaging interaction between students. Meten strongly believe when course material and teaching style is fun the learning process will be more effective and engaging. Course materials are filled with fun and interesting lesson topics that relate to students’ daily lives.

VIP Class

The VIP Class allows a student to exclusively have an ESL Teacher in a 1 on 1 class. This ensure a distraction free environment and allows the teacher to focus on delivering content tailored to the needs of the student and to address his / her specific learning requirements while also catering to his / her unique learning style and preferences. Topics can be flexible and based on the needs of the student.

Requirements

  • Native English speaker from UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or Ireland
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 120 hour TEFL certificate
  • 2 years of teaching experience preferred
  • Outgoing, dedicated, professional

Salary & Compensation Packages

Meten English China

25 teaching hours + 10 office hours per week

12,500 – 18, 000 RMB per month for Beijing, Guangzhou & Shenzhen

12,000 – 16,000 RMB per month for other locations (depends on teaching experience)

Housing allowance of 1,500 – 3,000 RMB depending on the city

12 days Chinese National holidays + 10 days of annual leave

Flight allowance: 8,000 – 10RMB (4000 RMB on arrival, remaining on contract completion)

2,500 RMB quarterly performance bonus

FAQ

Are there any costs for the recruitment process?

There are no costs at all for you. The entire recruitment process is free of charge.

Students expect to get immersed in English during class and so speaking Chinese is actually discouraged in class. So not speaking Chinese is not a problem regarding the job.

Your school will organise all the necessary papers needed to obtain a legal 1 year work (Z) visa for you. This process can take between 4 to 8 weeks and the school will help you through the process.

Your initial contract is 12 months. Many teachers choose to stay for one or more years.

Meten English provides comprehensive medical insurance coverage for you. It will cover you in event of sickness and injury.

Salary is paid on a monthly basis, paid in local currency, Chinese RMB. Pay day is once a month. Once you have your Chinese bank account open, Meten will deposit your check directly into your account. You will receive assistance from a staff member in opening a bank account and applying for a debit card.

Yes. It is possible to exchange and transfer money to bank accounts around the world. Check with your bank to find out what their policies are regarding international transfers and fees. Many people find Western Union or PayPal to be the easiest way to send money.

Average class sizes are 2 – 4 students for private classes and larger groups of 10 for the Activity Course and 1 for the VIP Classes.

There is a professional, smart-casual dress code that teachers are expected to comply with.

Yes. Many. General Meten English policy is to promote from within. The details will be supplied to you during your teacher training week.

A member of our staff will help you look for housing and will connect you with an agent. Apartment rent is paid 3 months at a time, up front and prior to moving in.

The formal training period is during the first week – by no later than the end of 2-3 weeks you will be on a full teaching schedule. To assist you during your first couple of weeks, you will begin by observing other teachers during many of their classes.

There is a teachers’ room in each center which has computers for internet access.
